During the Augmented World Expo on Tuesday, Snap showed off a teaser of its real-time image diffusion model on devices. The company explained that the early version of its new model can generate vivid AR experiences.
The company also introduced a host of AI generation tools for AR creators. It looks like Snap’s real-time imaging model can instantly bring your imagination to AR.
Snapchat introduces models that generate AR
According to the new announcement, Snapchat users will start seeing Lenses with this generational model in the coming months. Additionally, Snapchat also plans to bring the new Gen AI model to creators by the end of the year.
As the use cases of Generative AI grow, Murphy aims to bring an improvement to Snapchat with Generative AI. Usually, transforming a 2d image takes time to convert to AR or VR, which Murphy aims to reduce to seconds with the help of Gen AI-powered AR image generative models. The model is expected to be quite fast and can be placed on smartphones. With the new update you can render real-time frames with just one request.
At Snap, we believe in building and advancing technology that empowers our global community to express and bring their creativity to life. So today, we’re unveiling new AR experiences powered by GenAI to Snapchatters and our community of AR developers,” Snap co-founder and CTO Bobby Murphy explained in an official blog post.
What is expected next?
In addition to the generative AR model, Lens Studio 5.0 was also launched for developers. With Lens Studio 5.0, developers will be able to create rapid VR effects that typically take weeks or months.
You can also create selfie lenses by creating ML face effects. The update also aims to provide custom VR or AR effects as per your need.
Additionally, “This and future real-time on-device generative ML models speak to an exciting new direction for augmented reality and are giving us room to rethink how we envision rendering and creating AR experiences absolutely,” Murphy concluded.
